More National Park Quilts

I didn’t photograph all the quilts, but here’s a good sampling. The entire exhibit will leave Illinois July 4th to go home to VA. Click on the photos for title and artist.

The landscapes are my favorites. The white Yosemite waterfall shimmers in the light. The photo can’t do it justice.

Love the hiker exhalting the view at North Cascades.

Each artist was allowed to choose their favorite park and either a flora, fauna, and landscape topic. Landscapes measure 20″ x 40″, the others 20″x20″

isle royale duck
Isle Royale NP, MI by Lisa Arthaud

Isle Royale inspired me so, I wrote the island into my mystery novel, Wolf Pack. I didn’t see any wood ducks though. Wood ducks nest high in a tree and fluffy babies are rudely pushed out of the nest. On the back of this quilt the artist gave one of the baby ducks a parachute for a softer landing.

The National Park art quilt project became so popular among Virginia’s fabric art community, artists were allowed only one entry. Lisa Arthaud, however, did two for Isle Royale.

Until the end of 2019 these quilts are scheduled in other states for only four more exhibits. Then they will be returned to the artists, donated, or sold.
