Every once in a while you stumble upon a real gem.
While visiting a fellow author’s Facebook page, I noticed a red box that said, “READ MY BOOK.” I clicked on it and it shot me to his bio and a list of his published works, complete with pictures and descriptions. The red button inflicted me with App Envy, so I tracked down the app.
Once downloaded, the app can be accessed by your readers from your FB page with a simple click. Your books, profile, and book signing events will be listed very neatly and professionally. It’s so easy. I completed the whole thing in ten minutes.
Here’s what mine looks like: https://www.facebook.com/jeannemeeksauthor scroll down and click on red box that says “Read my Book”.
To access the app directly go to https://apps.facebook.com/authorapp/?ref=ts . Note: Under your picture it will say “Official website”. That link brings your visitors to your website. How cool is that?
I also like that you can offer readers the chance to get on your e-mail list. I need to grow such a list and now I know where to do it. Thanks FB… and the affiliate company at http://www.Freebooksy.com who developed the app.

I just tried this app and I’m already getting some traffic to the site. I’m sure there are people out there who don’t want to spend a lot of money on a commerce site, and this seems to fill a need.
Nancy Randolph was so impressed with the app she posted a blog on her website, Just Write Books, entitled 10 Reasons Authors Should Use Author App for Facebook. Take a look:
http://jstwrite.blogspot.com/2013/10/10-reasons-authors-should-use-author.html
So not only did I find a gem of an author’s app, I made a lot of friends on Linkedin and built a bit of traffic for my website. Lesson learned: You never know what will spark an interest and draw people to you. Give away good information like a politician hands out campaign literature. It just might pay you back ten-fold.
