Linda Saether, a member of Gulf Coast Writers, loves to write about different historical eras. Her debut novel, The Angel of the Penny Rose, takes place on a ship bound for the east coast of Florida in the 18th century. Inspired by tours of St. Augustine, FL, Linda began to research life aboard ship during months at sea and how women were treated in colonial Florida. She also thoroughly studied herbs and remedies used during those years to bring authenticity to her main character’s role as an apothecary.

A reader of The Angel of the Penny Rose wrote: A gripping tale filled with twists and turns, Saether’s grasp on the history of the time is matched only by the breakneck speed of her story.
Another reviewer says: … vivid descriptions of 18th century life – from the streets of London, across the Atlantic to St. Augustine, FL, with an extra flourish of tropical Cuba – the story follows a young woman making her way in the world. A thoroughly engaging romantic novel.
Linda particularly enjoys writing about women who find they have the strength and ingenuity to overcome adversity and thrive in societies which are often determined to suppress them.
Advice for authors…Research deeply, not just the big events but the everyday details of your character’s lives. Try to see the world through their eyes, share their hopes, and feel their losses.
Originally from Norway, Linda is a physician, blogger, and playwright. She has published two novels and is in the process of writing two more and branching out into crime thrillers and suspense novels.
