What do writers do in their spare time?

Today, we visited the Shangri La Springs Hotel in Bonita Springs. FL which was built in 1926 to take advantage of the natural mineral spring waters. It is now also a wedding venue, an up-scale spa, farm to table restaurant, and boutique in a beautiful old building surrounded by eight acres of gardens, fountains, and statuary.

But the spring’s history goes way back before 1926. For centuries, the Calusa Indians used the water for medicinal purposes, and Ponce De Leon visited in the 1500s while searching for the Fountain of Youth. Over the years, other famous visitors included Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and FDR.

Some not-so-famous people also visited today….me and seven other members of Gulf Coast Writers. We had a delicious lunch and lots of laughs. We roamed the lovely gardens and did a photo shoot for our book marketing.  (Sounds professional, doesn’t it?) Just fun stuff. It was worth the visit.
