Sean Martinelli is going places. Until recently, he was a favorite on the local Fort Myers TV news, doing human interest stories. He got “discovered” and now has a larger TV viewship in the Washington DC market. His goal remains the same… find stories to uplift people and highlight good news. Last Saturday, he came back to Fort Myers to visit his family and asked if he could speak to our Gulf Coast Writers group. He has visited several times in the past, ever since being the emcee at the launch of our anthology, Hurricane Ian – Storm Stories.

(above) That’s Mary Charles, Gulf Coast Writers president, with Sean Martinell, almost famous TV guy.
Sean told our group what it’s like behind the scenes in a newsroom, how he chooses stories to tell, and how he finds interesting characters. Like the guy who can solve a Rubic’s cube in 26 seconds and uses his talent to reach out to other autistic people. Another man wanted to give his neighbors a smile during Covid, so each day for the last 1562 days, he wrote a Bad Dad Joke on a white board in his yard…..”What do you call a hen who counts her own eggs?” Answer: a mathemachicken.
I love a good pun.
Sean has my dream job, but it wasn’t easy or him to get there. Yet, he remains a nice, unassuming young man. He brought his family with him to the meeting, and his dad looks just like him and is just as nice. Sean even helped fix the sound system before speaking to our group. When he makes it to the national news, I’ll be able to say, “I knew him when.”
Got any Bad Dad jokes to share?

From Lake Owen:
“My dad died because he couldn’t remember his blood type. As he died, he kept insisting, “Be positive.”

Groan. Double groan. I think I’d like a good lawyer joke better than that one! LOL
