Sing Along

The book launch for Rim To Rim was attended by a musician friend, Mike Evon. He called me soon after with the crazy idea of putting the story to music. I laughed it off, but then  said, “Why not?”

cd cove 1448x1448Working from the novel’s synopsis, I drew upon my years as a poet and wrote the lyrics. A week or two after e-mailing the words to Mike, he sent me a CD with the first draft of the song, RIM TO RIM. I was amazed at Mike’s talents with guitar, keyboard and bass and with the talents and voice of Mary Beth Hafner. I was equally amazed that words of mine could make such a wonderfully catchy song.

I continued writing songs lyrics and Mike and Mary Beth continued making music. While they’re doing their magic, I explored ways to put the finished songs out into the world.  We then created another eight songs with lyrics and one instrumental. I’m in awe of Mary Beth’s and Mike’s talent.

With all that going on, we decided we needed a band name and chose EVE&ME. We will perform for the record label, Chicken Coop Productions. We’re having great fun with this creative process.  The first song, “Rim To Rim” is available on Amazon.com and on You Tube where the video merges our song with photos from my actual backpacking trip to the canyon.  http://youtu.be/80aPUV3Ydr4  Sing along!

Mike did a fantastic job of arranging all of the songs, so in 2015, I designed a cover for an actual, in-hand, real CD. The lyrics to the songs are right here for you to sing along. CD Cover2-Notes from RIMYou may request the CD by contacting me or Mike at Eve.n.me@aol.com

On The Right Path

Like an old boot you put me aside,

made me feel like a double D wide.

You turned me out, inside and out,

You turned me out, inside and out.

I was a moccasin, a slipper, a comfortable shoe.

She’s a spikey five-incher, a wedge through and through.

You turned me out, inside and out.

You turned me out, inside and out.

You in your wing-tips, all glossy and black,

made me your doormat and you never looked back.

You turned me out, inside and out,

You turned me out, inside and out.

Now my boots are on the trail, you can have your lust.

I kicked the dirt from under my heels  and left you in my dust.

Now that you are gone, I’m on the right path

I’m a force to be reckoned with. Watch my aftermath.

I turned you out. I turned you inside and out.

I turned you out. I turned you inside and out.

Done With Me?

You’re done with me? I’m done with you.

I can’t believe I spoke the words. You better know it’s true.

Don’t you know the reason? Can’t you see the why?

Like a condor on high I have learned to fly

I’ve got my walking legs beneath me. You can’t use me no more

Your love has left me empty, bruised down to my core.

You’re done with me? I’m done with you.

I can’t believe I spoke the words. You better know it’s true.

You had my heart bleeding like a rusty canyon wall.

You thought I’d always need you, but I refuse to crawl.

It was pretty while it lasted. Your light shining bright

I earned my time in the sun and I have learned to fight.

You’re done with me? I’m done with you.

I can’t believe I spoke the words. You better know it’s true.

Leave Me Now

I’m bound to burn like a moth in a flame

cause I come running when you call my name.

You think I’d learn the lesson by now.

I should leave, but don’t know how.

Leave me now and give me space

or I’ll be gone without a trace.  (repeat)

I should go, you treat me too well.

You call it love, but I’m under your spell.

I need to grow, to blossom and bloom.

You love me so, you leave me no room.

Leave me now, give me space

or I’ll be gone without a trace.  (repeat)

Who am I? I‘ll never know

‘cause I can’t breathe till you tell me to go.

I’m bound to burn like a moth in a flame

cause I come running when you call my name.

Leave me now. Give me space

or I’ll be gone without a trace.    (repeat)

Little Dream     (lyrics by Peyton Westphal)

I wish I could dream above the clouds,

dream above the stars.

If you go in your imagination,

you will go somewhere else.

Tell me, tell me, that my imagination is right.

Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me.

I know that my imagination is right

I wish I could dream above the clouds,

dream above the stars.

If you go in your imagination,

you will go somewhere else.

Tell me, tell me,  that my imagination is right

Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me.

I know that my imagination is right.

Tell me, tell me, that my imagination is right

Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me.

I know that my imagination is right.

RIM TO RIM

The broken-hearted drive over the rim

Not me, my friend, I’m going in

I’ll find myself, I’ll find a friend

I’m hiking in from rim…from rim to rim.

Canyons and spires formed by God’s hand,

ground for ages by grains of sand

Awesome and deadly under the rim

You’ll live or die at nature’s…at nature’s whim.

The grapevine whispered, “He fell from the rim.”

Not me, my friend, I’m going in

I’ll find myself, I’ll find a friend

I’m hiking in from rim…from rim to rim

Nature in her glory. Beware what you wish

Lost souls, lost treasure both share the abyss

The trail will punish. Cold rocks just don’t care.

Hazard the journey, find love where you dare.

The rash and foolish risk life and limb

Not me, my friend, I’m going in

I’ll find myself, I’ll find a friend

I’m hiking in from rim…from rim to rim

Boots on the trail. Eyes on the ground

Trapped on a ledge. Don’t make a sound.

Night’s lonely sentry, he howled at the moon

He hailed his demons and called down…called down his doom.

The day dawned early to reveal his end

Not mine, my friend, I fought to win

I found myself, I found a friend.

We beat the canyon from rim to rim.
